Do: Discussion Board Module 10 (Pre- and post-replies)

  1. After completing Module 09, begin Module 10 by offering your first thoughts to one (1) of the questions in the next module.  No preparation is needed, and you automatically earn 2 points.
  2. After completing Module 10, read through the pre-learning thoughts of your classmates and help a classmate in another group expand on those thoughts.  Earn up to an additional 8 points by using assigned materials to build out those pre-learning thoughts and arrive at a well-developed answer. Include page references from Common Sense Economics (2010) and a reference to an assigned video or podcast to support your work in order to earn full credit.
  3. The questions follow. (Please copy and paste the question into your reply.  It makes grading easier, thanks!)
  • Last names beginning with A-H:  Suppose points are taken away from all students who earn A's and redistributed to those students who earn F's.  As a result, the A students end up with B's and the F students end up with D's.  How would this redistribution affect the incentive of students to study and learn?
  • Last names beginning with I-Q:  Have anti-poverty income transfer programs reduced the poverty rate and improved the well-being of the poor? Why or why not?
  • Last names beginning with R-Z:  Do you think central planners can direct sectors of the economy such as health care, energy and education more efficiently than markets?  Explain your response.
