Do: Discussion Board Module 05 (Pre- and post-replies)

Modules 5, 6, and 7 (i.e. Part 2) of Common Sense Economics is all about economic growth and prosperity.  They explain why some economies prosper more than others using the elements of Part 1.

  1. After completing Module 04, begin Module 05 by offering your first thoughts to one (1) of the questions in the next module.  No preparation is needed, and you automatically earn 2 points.
  2. After completing Module 05, read through the pre-learning thoughts of your classmates and help a classmate in your assigned group expand on those thoughts.  Earn up to an additional 8 points by using assigned materials to build out those pre-learning thoughts and arrive at a well-developed answer. Include page references from Common Sense Economics (2010) and a reference to an assigned video or podcast to support your work in order to earn full credit.
  3. The questions follow. (Please copy and paste the question into your reply.  It makes grading easier, thanks!)
    • Last names beginning with A-H: What does economic growth mean to you and how has the world's economic growth changed over the last 200 years?
    • Last names beginning with I-Q: How does private ownership influence the incentive to maintain and develop property?  Explain.
    • Last names beginning with R-Z: Competition encourages producers to innovate, keep costs low, and satisfy customers.  However, Walmart is often vilified for doing just that.  Is competition bad for the economy?  Explain.
